Year 1 - Summer

Mathematics

Number – Number and Place Value: Counting and writing to 100. 1 more and 1 less than a given number 

Number – Addition and Subtraction: Number bonds to 10. Addition and subtraction to 20.  Solve one-step problems that involve addition and subtraction, using concrete objects and pictorial representations, and missing number problems such as 7 =  ? - 9. 

Solving number and word problems using the bar model method.

Number – Multiplication and Division: Counting in 2’s, 5’s, 10’s.  Solve one-step problems involving multiplication and division, by calculating the answer using concrete objects, pictorial representations and arrays with teacher support.

Measurement: Sequencing events in chronological order using language. Simple money sums .

Time – hour, minutes and seconds. Telling and writing the time for o’clock and half past.

Mass and Weight, capacity and volume.

Number – Fractions: To recognise, find and name a half as one of two equal parts of an object, shape or quantity.   Recognise, find and name a quarter as one of four equal parts of an object, shape or quantity.

Geometry – Properties of shape: 2D and 3D shapes.

Geometry - Position and direction: Describe position, direction and movement, including whole, half, quarter and three-quarter turns.

Literacy

Comprehension: Explain clearly their understanding of what is read to them.

Writing – transcription. Adding prefixes and suffixes.

Handwriting: Joining cursives letters and understanding which letters belong to which letter ‘families’.

Writing - Composition: Re-reading what they have written to check it makes sense. Fiction: Fantasy Worlds, Instruction Writing and recounts.

Writing - Grammar, Vocabulary and Punctuation: Continuing to punctuate sentences using a capital letter and a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.

Spoken word: listen and respond appropriately to adults and their peers. To ask relevant questions to extend their understanding and knowledge. Reciting poetry.

Word reading:  Phonics – phases 2 - 5. Segmenting and blending phonemes in real and ‘alien’ words.  Read common exception words. Read words containing taught GPCs and –s, –es, –ing, –ed, – er and –est endings.

Science

Growing Plants: Identify and name a variety of common wild and garden plants, including deciduous and evergreen trees.  Identify and describe the basic structure of a variety of common flowering plants, including trees.

Seasonal changes: Observe changes across the four seasons.  Observe and describe weather associated with the seasons and how day length varies.

Design and Technology

Cooking and Nutrition:  Use the basic principles of a healthy and varied diet to prepare dishes.  Understand where food comes from.

History

Significant historical events: Introduction to the history of Enfield.

Geography

A Study of a small area of the UK (Enfield).

Computing

We are Collectors- copying, pasting and editing images from the Internet.

We are TV Chefs (Linked to Design and Technology) - pupils produce short videos of themselves making a healthy meal or snack.

Internet safety.

Art

Sculpture, inspired by the work of Andy Goldsworthy. Children to create a sculpture using natural objects.

Music

Singing - learning songs about animals.  Understanding about how a piano works.  Appropriate use of percussion instruments.  Listening to music - start to compare music and discuss about what is being listened to.

P.E. & Games

Gymnastics and Dance.

Receiving and sending the ball.

RE            

Resurrection- Focus on recognising/retelling key religious stories.  Recognising and describing Easter symbols.

Miracles - Focus on recognising/retelling key religious stories.  To know that people act in a certain way because of their religion.

Spanish

Family - to learn the names of family members and to be able to ask and answer the question 'Do you have any siblings?'

Pets- to learn the names of pets and be able to say what pet you have and what pet you would like to have.

All About Me Booklet-to complete a booklet with all of the topics covered in Year 1.
