School Priorities 2023-2024
1. Develop RE and the religious life of the school
RE and the Catholic ethos of the school is central to everything we do and all that we stand for. We believe that, in developing this aspect of the school, we are laying the foundations for an effective teaching and learning climate based on Gospel values and inspired by the example of Jesus Christ. In RE, all staff have received extended training from Westminster Diocese, and are now in a position to use this new learning to introduce creativity into the teaching and learning. There is a new inspection framework to be prepared for, so monitoring will be more focused on the new requirements. Following our very successful inspection in June 2018, we need to begin to be ‘inspection ready.’
2. Curriculum – reading, EYFS, data (phonics), SEND
The school placed great importance on reading in the post-pandemic period. Much of this was focused on early reading and this had a positive impact. The teaching methodologies used now need to be developed in Key Stage 2 to develop consistency throughout the school. Additional resources will be directed towards the older children which will lead to improved outcomes in assessment activities.
3. Staffing – subject leaders, appraisal, CPD, wellbeing
We base our mathematics teaching on the White Rose Scheme. We need to ensure that supplementary material is appropriately challenging and allos the children to develop mastery in their mathematics work. We are also conscious that parents need to be kept up to date with new methods and strategies, so additional curriculum information sessions and workshops will be provided.
4. Premises and community
All subject leaders have increased expectancy on them since the new Ofsted framework was introduced in 2019. We need to ensure all leaders are fully prepared in their roles. SLT similarly need to be fully prepared for deep analysis questions that may be posed by advisors or inspectors. Year group leaders provide structure and stability within their year group, so their roles need to be clarified and developed. The Senior Leadership Team in experiencing ongoing change at the moment, so a clear structure and succession plan is needed.
