School Priorities 2021-2022

1. Develop RE and the religious life of the school

RE and the Catholic ethos of the school is central to everything we do and all that we stand for. We believe that, in developing this aspect of the school, we are laying the foundations for an effective teaching and learning climate based on Gospel values and inspired by the example of Jesus Christ. In RE, the data demonstrates that we are a high achieving school, although we are aiming for higher numbers of pupils to attain at the higher levels as well as narrowing the gap between the attainment of our disadvantaged pupils and their peers. There is a new framework to implement and we begin our preparation for our next inspection, following our very successful one in June 2018 (it takes place on a five-year cycle).

2. Improve the teaching of reading throughout the school. Improve the resources we use to teach reading.

Although attainment is good in reading, progress is less pleasing. One reason for this is the reading resources that we currently have. Despite being a major investment, the fact that reading was an area identified by the school as an aspect of the curriculum that suffered during the Coronavirus pandemic, means that some catch up funding can be justifiably spent. It is also an area highlighted by Ofsted in October 2019 as an area for development.n. 

3. Create a vibrant, engaging EYFS environment in a self-contained secure space

Our results at KS2 were similar to those in 2018, though progress is likely to be reduced. Need to ensure those with potential to be more able are identified early and their progress closely monitored so that they achieve in line with their potential. This is particularly true for writing.

4. Develop the knowledge and skills of the middle leaders (subject leaders) in school 

Following on from the selection and induction of our foundation subject leaders, we are now requiring our subject leaders to develop a wider, more strategic overview of their subject. This includes how the learning builds for each child year on year, and also how the subject area contributes to and is connected to the wider curriculum. 

5. The effective introduction of the new RSE requirements into the school curriculum  

We are required by law to implement a new RSE curriculum. Consultations with stakeholders will need to take place and research into suitable materials with which to deliver the new learning is necessary.
