Maths Activity Day
To celebrate a special day of maths, we asked all children to come to school wearing numbers and had a day filled with fun maths activities.
In Reception, children enjoyed activity games based around ordinal numbers. Children made stickers and rosettes for different winning positions and sang lots of number songs.
In Year 1, activities were based around the book, ‘The Blue Balloon’ by Mick Inkpen. This book focuses on the subject of shape, space and measure. Children had the opportunity to do look at shape while making models. They used rulers to measure slime and ICT to create 2D shape pictures. They used the Moblio to make different things and identify the shapes, for example: circle, cube, and square.
In Year 2, children played games involving time and calculations - including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. In the afternoon, they had a quiz in each Year 2 class, followed by a quiz between the Year 2 classes. It was lots of fun and the children enjoyed the day!
Curious Maths Quiz
Children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 attended a maths quiz in the hall . Each year was split into teams of four and gave their team a name. There were 6 different rounds and as each round passed the calculations/questions became more and more challenging. At the end of the quiz, the scores were recorded and four children from each year group were chosen to represent our school against other schools at St. Michaels Primary School.
Year 3 came third in their competition, while Year 4 and 5 came first in their competitions!
We are very proud of all the children as it was a brilliant day. Everyone put in lots of effort and all the children did their very best to enjoy the day and make it a success.
