The chicks visit St. George's
During the last few weeks, here at St. George’s we have been looking after 10 chicks.
When they came here, they were just eggs. Over the course of the first 3 or 4 days the chicks hatched. There were 5 girls and 5 boys. You can tell the difference between the boys and girls as the boys have brown stripes on their wings, and the girls do not.
When a chick hatched, that chick would have been very tired as it takes all their strength to peck their way out of the shell. A newly born chick would lay down limply and almost look dead but this is how they regain their strength!
In the last week of their stay, for half an hour at a time they went round to each class. Then that class had to look after them. We all hope that the chicks will visit St. George’s again.
