Music

"He who sings, prays twice",  St Augustine.

Music is at the heart of St George's School. Not only is it an enjoyable activity for all children but Music helps to raise standards in many other areas of the curriculum.

Each class has a weekly curriculum music lesson with emphasis on encouraging the children's listening, composing and performing skills. From Year 2 upwards the children have an opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument in the music lesson.

Individual Music tuition during school time is also available for children whose parents wish to pay for tuition. We currently have children learning to play the violin, flute, piano, keyboard and guitar. This is through our Music Partner "Enfield Music Service". The peripatetic Music teachers visit each week to teach on a one to one basis.

St George's also has two after school Music clubs which take place in the Music Classroom. Key Stage 1 Music Club on Monday, and Key Stage 2 Music Club on Tuesday.

We also have a School Orchestra who perform regularly at assemblies and our weekly Friday morning Mass. We rehearse on Tuesdays at lunchtime. This year the Orchestra had the opportunity to perform at assembly with "The Non-such Orchestra" who were visiting the School. It was an amazing experience for them to sit alongside professional musicians and perform.

Singing is also an important part of school life, and children are encouraged to sing at assemblies, whole school Masses and weekly Hymn Practice. Yr1 and Yr4 take part in a singing project each year hosted by Enfield Music Service. The children learn vocal techniques and new repertoire.

St George's School Choir also takes an active part in school life. The School choir perform at concerts and services in our Parish. Each year at Christmas they entertain our elderly residents and also perform at our Parish Community Carol Concert held in Our Lady of Mount Carmel & St George's Church. This year the Choir also took part in a Summer singing project which concluded with a wonderful concert where both the Choir and School Orchestra performed.
